Association for Prevention of Blindness (U.P) & it's unit Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatgi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya are the expression of a vision quest, a response to the silent call of thousands who have lost their sight.

Under the leadership of Dr. Rajendra Rohatgi, and inspiration of his father Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatgi,  ASSOCIATION FOR THE PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS, U.P. was founded in Kanpur in 1946 with the mission to eradicate needless blindness in Uttar Pradesh.Subsequently a Eye Hospital was established in 1956 under the name of Kanpur Eye Hospital which was later changed to Dr Jawahar Lal Rohatgi Memorial Eye Hospital to carry on this work.

 Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatgi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya is able to provide free eye care to two-thirds of its patients from the revenue generated from the other third of its paying patients. 

Now in its 51st year, Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatagi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya’s innovative eye care delivery system is recognised as a model for other developing Eye Hospitals. Much importance is given to ensure that all patients are accorded the same care and high quality service, regardless of their economic status. As a result of a unique fee system and effective management.

 

Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatgi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya follows the principle that large volume, high quality service result in low cost and self-sustainability. Dr.Jawaharlal Rohatgi SmarakNetra Chikitsalaya's network has the distinction of being a very productive eye care organisation. in terms of surgical volume and the number of patients treated.

 192 bedded Eye Hospital built in 1958, conducting extensive outreach programmes for cataract. Holding eye camps in Kanpur & surrounding  12  districts, taking eye care to the village level.

 Hospital spread over 4.65 acres having 12 Pvt. Rooms, 18 Semi Pvt. Rooms, 8 General wards, 3 Operation Theatres, 1 Labour Room, 1 Auditorium, Nurses Hostel, Doctors & Employees Quarters.

 General Hospital under the name of J. L. Rohatagi Hospital covering all disciplines was started in 1997-98

*     

Hospital aims to develop as Centre of Excellence for teaching & training as well as providing state of art treatment facilities to patients at affordable prices & with a human face.
